Luna D’Ombra

Luna D'Ombra was created in collaboration with horse owner Huub Roeven. Creating Luna D'Ombra changed the way I view horses forever. Through Huub's eyes, I came to see the horse more and more as a well-oiled machine of muscles, with everything in balance. Horse and man in perfect harmony, trained for the highest performance.

Nice Frieda, one of Huub's horses, was the inspiration for this project. By observing her many times and through photos and videos, I was able to capture the essence of Nice Frieda in steel. When I started this project, Nice Frieda was still a young horse, only four years old. This is reflected in the build and muscle development of the sculpture. Starting with the front legs, Luna D'Ombra gradually took shape. A realistic, lifelike horse with a unique style.

All the muscles, tendons and definitions of the horse are reflected. Rigid steel was forged into organic forms. With my personal vision, I shaped her from the legs to the hips and from the hips to the head. Through the mane and tail everything came together, bringing soul to the sculpture. Now that she is completed, she radiates peace. Still, yet simultaneously in motion. The texture accentuates her muscle lines, and her tail and mane create a dynamic whole. Luna D'Ombra translates from Italian to “Moon Shadow”. Luna - moon and D'Ombra - shadow. She is a shadow reflection of Nice Frieda, a shadow moon immortalized in steel.

This was a completely new project for me. I applied the knowledge I gained in the past and experimented with creating a life-size animal. Crafted from passion and skill, she is now complete.
